Allegations of human right abuses in alternative energy suppliers

According to a new report from the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, 86 per cent of the top mining companies that provide the raw materials needed to make solar panels, wind turbines, electric cars and other green infrastructure that is crucial for renewable energy have been linked to alleged human rights abuses since 2010. For example, according to the report all of the top five lithium producers — Albemarle, Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium, Livent Corporation, SQM, Tianqi Lithium Corporation — have faced allegations of corruption, tax avoidance or violating environmental regulations.
